Introduction to Analytical Data Thinking

In this course, students will understand analytical thinking as a critical and structured approach for turning raw data into actionable insights. The philosophical and scientific roots of the method are covered, along with the data lifecycle, including collection, cleaning, analysis, and visualization, applying descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics to support strategic decisions.

The module also explores the difference between correlation and causation, avoiding flawed conclusions, and organizational challenges, such as data quality, poorly defined objectives, communication silos, and analysis paralysis. Best practices for overcoming these obstacles are discussed, including setting SMART goals, cross-team integration, and execution grounded in reliable data.

Finally, students will study Data Storytelling techniques and the use of tools (Excel, SQL, Python, R, Tableau, Power BI), as well as applying Machine Learning and Deep Learning to predict behaviors and automate processes. The module emphasizes that AI acts as an amplifier, while the human analyst remains essential to validate results, interpret strategies, and mitigate algorithmic biases, ensuring ethical and effective decisions.
