Intellectual Property in the Digital Age

In this course, students will understand the new landscape of intellectual property in the digital age, addressing challenges such as piracy, unauthorized sharing, distributed authorship, and the impacts of artificial intelligence. The role of Brazil's Internet Civil Framework (Marco Civil) in protecting copyright will be discussed, defining clear responsibilities for providers and platforms and formal procedures for notice and takedown of illegal content.

The module also explores accessibility and digital inclusion, highlighting the importance of technical standards and assistive technologies for people with disabilities, and tackling Brazil's digital paradox, in which a significant portion of the population still lacks quality connectivity, hindering access to information and digital culture.

Finally, the module addresses cyberactivism as a tool for mobilization and the defense of digital rights, showing its importance in the passage of laws such as the Internet Civil Framework and Brazil's LGPD, in combating fake news, and in promoting alternative intellectual property models, such as open licenses and Creative Commons. The focus is on the convergence between legal protection, digital inclusion, and social activism, creating a balanced ecosystem that ensures universal access to culture and fair protection for creators.
