Foundations of Philosophy and Ethics in Management

In this course, students will understand the role of philosophy in management, from the thinkers of Ancient Greece, such as Socrates, to its practical application in modern VUCA environments. Philosophy helps question assumptions, avoid biases, and ground decisions, providing tools for critical reflection and logical reasoning in corporate decision-making. The module addresses ethics and morality in the Brazilian context, highlighting cultural complexity, including Indigenous, Portuguese, and African influences, and social phenomena such as the "Brazilian way" (jeitinho brasileiro) and the "cordial man".

Professional ethics is presented as essential in managing stakeholders — employees, clients, suppliers, and competitors — based on responsibility, honesty, confidentiality, and transparency, regulated by professional Codes of Ethics (such as Brazil's CFA/CRA).

Finally, students will study ethics as a competitive advantage and compliance, showing how ethical companies attract talent, retain clients, and strengthen governance. Contemporary dilemmas are discussed, along with the importance of ethical leadership, including character building, leading by example, and responsible innovation, especially in the use of technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, ensuring sustainable and socially conscious decisions.
